"Skunk Or Dog"

What do you get if you mix the following:

1. 2 litres of Hyrdron Peroxide
2. 1/4 cup of Baking Soda
3. 1 teaspoon of Dish Detergent

4. (and my own added ingredient...) a rinse off in the Murray River...

And I only learned this last night via the internet, but it is in fact the perfect formula to "de-skunk" a dog... Yes, our lovely little "four legged" family member Shelby, had a close encounter of the near fatal kind, ('cause I could have killed her!!!) last night, with a friendly little local skunk that my sister-in-law Dawn had labelled "Stella", due to her frequency in the neighbourhood... I had taken the dog out for an end of the day "doggie doo" thing, just before bed... She saw the little angel waddling across the street, about 100 yards from where we stood, and literally bolted... Within less than a minute, she returned with her tail between her legs, having totally ignored my yelling for her return, and yes, reaking!!! Thank God for the internet, as I found the formula right away... It also advised that the tomatoe juice thing is a "total fallacy", as all the juice does is mask the smell for a short time...

And thank goodness for our new neighbours Steve and Jocelyn... I only had 1/2 a bottle of peroxide, and no baking soda, but they came to the rescue... So what's the morale of the story??? I'd like to say that if you're going to be silly enough to own a dog when you live in the country, just expect such encounters to happen on occassion, but Darlene and Dawn insist that the morale is to take your dog out on a leash... NAAH!!! Ain't gonna happen, ha!!! Later All...

grrrr if you took her out on a leash, like we have told you 100 times before..because there are skunks around, it wouldnt have happened!!! Or maybe even train her to come back when you call her. Waiting for YOUR comeback cuz i know i will get one.

i have to concur with the ladies on this one.... if the dog is running away common sense says "prevent the running away" and only give her so far to run... i think a leash is the way... OR the sadistic method... electric fence!!!!! mwahahahaa

Have to agree, Wayne. Either train her or put her on a leash.

Okay, you've all forced me to state what you all know to be the facts, and true...

If those who literally "conned" me into allowing a new dog to come into my home, did what "THEY" said "THEY" would do, and that I would have absolutely "NO" responsibility regarding the new dog; then the dog would have been out with one of "THOSE" indiviudals, (the main person who was suppose to be responsible having since moved away, leaving "HER" dog behind...) on a leash, and not have been "skunked"... But not to fear, as this will "NEVER" happen again to me in "MY" life, ha!!!

PS: I wonder if the "ENTIRE" story regarding the dog, was presented to an independent panel of 10 people, what would they all say??? If I had a million dollars to bet, I've little doubt that 80% plus would agree with me, ha!!!

Wayne.....despite the fact that you feel you were connned, you have to deal with "what is", which is the fact that you DO have a dog, who is untrained and unruly. As an extrainer of RCMP dogs, one would think that it would be a simple matter to train one little lab, so that she would be properly socialized among dogs and people.

It's nice to see you finally recognize the truth of the situation, Wayne. Now don't forget to put her on the leash!!

Just stumbled across your Blog while surfing Blog sites... I'm with you man... If the folks who promised they'd look after the animal can't do just that, get rid of the poor thing... It's not the dog's fault, but the irresponsible people who took on the responsibility of owning a dog... Good Luck with it...

Who did he pay to write that ^^^^^^

Sorry dad, but your deffinatley wrong in the situation.... when a family takes on a pet, the family takes it on, not just mom or leah or whatever. The dog is the families. If the dog was on a leash, which takes 2 seconds to do, their would be no skunk sprayage, and no blog bitchage.

HA!!! With a capital "H" and a capital "A"... Right On Chris!!! You must be referring to how you and Leah pitched in and did your share with "Jessie", for her 13 years...(our previous neglected dog...)... Well, in yours and Leah's defence, you both did help out with Jessie; "for maybe the first week"!!!!!!!

Yup, one might think that I wouldn't be "STUPID" enough to fall for the same thing twice, but I did... So as they say, (who exactly are they???) "once bitten", "twice shy", "but there'll be no third time for this guy", ha!!! Hmmm... A Poet!!!

I think the expression you're looking for is "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"

OOOOOOOOOOOOK! NOW! its my turn!! Ok, DAD.....when we first took my sweet little girl in, yes we did say we would look after her and all that other stuff you were going on and on about. and we, including myself, did look after her...and yes! i did look after her and did what i could to do so. BUT! it is your household and (god help me when i say this) YOU are the boss and the decision maker. i dont recall anyone holding a gun to your head when we decided to take my sweet little baby in. SO, if you ABSOLUTELY, 100%, HONESTLY did not want to take her in, you would have "put your foot down" like you have said with other situations in the past, you would have. But you said YES, so stop being a baby, and babling on how your "the victim", because you had a part in the choice to take her in. If i was totally able to bring her here to live with me and Steve(and yes, he would let me bring her here) I would in a heart beat. and we all know how Shelby is, espically if there is another animal around, of coarse she is going to take off. and like Chris said, pervent the running away by putting her leash on, no electric fence! my poor girl would get hurt! so, knowing dad, we probally won't hear the end of this from him for the people that know him, but i think that maybe you should actually take some responsibility for this incident. victim? HA! i dont think so tim! but i love ya's all!!!!!!!!!!! and SHES SHEWEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
